Following up on the extra-ordinary photographs by Bimala Naysmith is the short film made on the same day directed by Vraja Sundari Keilman, made in collaboration with cinematographer Lars Steenhoff, filmmaker and Tusta dancer Ken Srisangkhan (ISH) featuring dancers Liam O’Callaghan, Vraja Sundari Keilman and upcoming talent Kim Amankwaa. The eye-catching body art displaying ancient Vedic mantras and symbols were done by artist and Samadhi dancer Rasarani Keilman and Tusta’s singer-songwriter Chris Kuijken/Chaitanya Charan Das , also known as the puppetmaster from SDC’s 2012 production ‘Mohini’. The 3 minute movie shows the concept of Tusta in a nutshell; covered with dirt and dust due to the passing of time which symbolizes attachment, the main character (Liam) comes to life by the influence of spiritual knowledge, symbolized by the female dancers (Kim and Vraja).

The music track is a mix of Alt-J’s ‘Breezeblocks (Submerse Remix)’ and a chanting – ‘japa’- session of the inspiring guru known as HH Sacinandana Swami. Clothing of the dancers feature items of Hairfashion’s exclusive boutique known as Airfashion by Leo NG at the Rokin in Amsterdam.

We had an absolute blast making the film and are thrilled to share the result with our audience; enjoy and feel free to rate, share or comment!

We are thrilled to announce that on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 Samadhi Dance Company’s new live music and dance production for 2013 titled ‘Tusta’ will premiere at the Pleintheater Amsterdam followed by performances throughout Europe during the summer and fall season of 2013. After a total of eight dance works founder and artistic director Vraja Sundari Keilman felt inspired to create a new, more raw dance performance inspired by the concept of detachment enhanced by the use of live music and stunning projected artwork, creating a powerful multidisciplinary dance production likely to sweep you off your feet!

‘Tusta’ – Sanskrit for ‘dust’- is a unique improvisational contemporary dance performance in collaboration with Chilean artist Carolina Larrea, Indian composer and sitar player Surajit Das, costume brand Airfashion by Leo NG (Hong Kong) and singer-songwriter Chaitanya Charan Das, also known as Chris Kuijken from the upcoming band Isophone.

‘Tusta’ is inspired by the concept of detachment and breaking habitual patterns that cause stagnation which block growth. The structure of the performance is inspired by the principals of the Indian music form known as the ‘raga’ in which the musicians improvise within a set structure, specific notes and a certain topic. In ‘Tusta’ the physical dialogue of the dancers form the dialogue of ‘notes’ and their ‘topic of discussion’ is detachment. Their interpretation and exploration of these elements form the content of performance.

Besides the introduction of the set elements the entire performance is improvised by the dancers, making the work an intimate and genuine experience for both the viewer as the performer.

The production is dedicated to the Indian God Jagannath (Jagath = Sanskrit for ‘World of Change’) known from Indian Chariot Festivals (Rathayatra) celebrated throughout the world.

‘Tusta’ will be performed by the charismatic and versatile dancers Liam O’Callaghan, Jeffrey Stuut, Vraja Sundari Keilman, Ilaria Angelicchio, Ken Srisangkhan and interns Loura van Krimpen (Codarts) and Kim Amankwaa. They will be carried out by composed live music from Chris Kuijken and Surajit Das as well as recorded tracks from artists such as Alt-J, Armand Amar, Radiohead and Nitin Sawhney.

Costumes will again be provided by Hong Kong’s high fashion brand Airfashion by hair artist Leo NG from Hairfashion Amsterdam, the company’s all-time favorite hair salon situated at the Rokin. The eye-catching make up and body art as seen in our trailer – http://youtu.be/VblLX8oNpnc – is created by renaissance artists Rasarani Keilman and Chris Kuijken.

:
AND THAT’S NOT ALL:

We are very happy to announce that our Russian bharata natyam dancer Gaura Nataraj Das Furdak, also known as the stunning male Indian dancer from SDC, will be with us in May to perform the 10 minute pre-program of both evenings! And as if this weren’t enough, there will be a delicious selection of vegetarian snacks available before and after the performances so ….. don’t wait to long and
RESERVE YOUR TICKETS NOW AT

http://www.pleintheater.nl/item.php?item=896

; There are only a total of 180 seats available for both performances so we recommend our audience to reserve or purchase your tickets as soon as you can if you want to be sure of your seat at one of these blasting performances!
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

With this installation Noortje Bijvoets and Feri de Geus display in a new dimension their preference and specialization to work in an intercultural setting. Twelve performing artists arising from 50 years of migration in the Netherlands show the richness and diversity of culture and religion in contemporary Holland. Artists include a.o. Muhanad Rasheed (Gouden Zwaan for production ‘Mourning’), Ederson Rodriques Xavier (Zilveren Theaterdansprijs 2002), Kalpana Raghuraman, Bryan Druiventak (Solid Ground) and Guy Weizman (Club Guy and Roni). With training, education and productions, they have in recent years cooperated with local partners in many countries such as South-Africa, Cuba and Benin to mention a few. Their previous and similar documentary was presented at the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2011 in Maastricht and was positively received by press and audience. The interview and performance for ‘Dance/Devotion/Deviation’ took place in the spacious studio of Dansmakers in Amsterdam and it was a truly a unique and very inspiring experience for Vraja Sundari to be part of such a unique and educational project!

We are extremely excited to announce that on January 4 2013 the Balletschool Marut Jorquera had the honor to receive the Culture Award (Cultuurprijs) 2013 of Baarn. We are still speechless and beyond grateful to receive this award and we really cannot thank our voters and supporters enough !! This recognition and appreciation of the dedicated work by our founder Marutvati Keilman-Jorquera (1951-2010) and our effort to continue her legacy truly means the world to us and we are humbled by all the sweet responses and valuable encouragements we have received, it exceeds all our expectations!

Soon we will post a short film showing the award ceremony at the annual new years reception in Baarn plus two interviews published by the Gooi- en Eemlander and the Baarnsche Courant.

Once again THANK YOU from the very core of our heart to all who took the time to support us, your support has been of immense value and we truly couldn’t wish for a better start of 2013!
